About my watercolor paintings:
I like using Daniel Smith extra fine watercolors for my paintings. I have also found that they make beautiful mixes. I love using MaimeriBlu Superior Watercolors for mixing. Below I've added links to the specific colors.

"Amber"
watercolor 20" x 16" $300 Quinacridone Rose and Quinacridone Gold create the mood for this graceful pieces. After putting down a wash of these two colors, placing plastic wrap on it while it dried, I added some carefully placed glazing to pull out the image. A new "gem" was born. "Gold"
watercolor and gesso 20" x 16" $350 Iridescent Gold, Lamp black and Phthalo Blue brought this painting to life. I had the best time making peaks with gesso which gave Inspiration to the Florida Banyan tree. This echos the way their roots crawl, rigid above the ground. "Little Gem"
watercolor and rice paper 7.5" x 5.5" $100 This fun little piece is heading toward abstraction. I used a photo of a Milkweed pod for the subject. I used multiple colors for the under painting in the pod area, Quinacridone Gold for the stem and vine and added Phthalo Blue to it for the background color. Once everything was dried, I laid on the rice paper to the pod to mimic the graceful, soft silk seeds. |
"Diamond"
graphite 20" x 16" $125 Continuing with the gem series, this new graphite drawing was created to add a new element of the variations in shading. This piece was inspired by the roses cascading off my garden fence. . "Jade"
watercolor 14" x 11" $200 As with Amber, another light application of Quinacridone Red and Phthalo Blue created this under painting. Once the paint dried, I was able to add the shriveling leaves and almost-spent berries to the mix. What fun it is using just a few colors and coming up with different results! "Onyx"
graphite/colored pencil 14" x 11" $125 Natural Lemongrass Kozo paper was the perfect background for this Spring Peeper. I enjoyed using graphite and Prismacolor pencils to pull this guy into focus! |
"Opal"
watercolor 20" x 16" $300 A light application of Quinacridone Red, Phthalo Blue and Giallo Permanente Yellow created the under painting and the perfect atmosphere for this piece. Slightly more saturated colors were layered on top to give it more painting depth. |
“Ruby”
watercolor 16" x 20" $300 Playing with mixes of Nickel Titanate Yellow, Phthalo Blue and gradually adding drops of Lunar Black to the surrounding colors made the ruby center of interest, Quinacridone Magenta pop! I had the best time guiding the washes of the granulating colors down the paper. |
"Turquoise" ~ sold
watercolor 14" x 11" $200 A light application of Quinacridone Red, Phthalo Blue and Permanente Yellow created the under painting, which lent itself to the perfect atmosphere for this piece. More saturated Phthalo Blue was layered on top to bring out the butterflies. |
